Crown can be made to protect fragile tooth structure. For example if your tooth was damaged severely due to caries or trauma, the fracture of tooth would be likely to occur in the near future which leads to loss of that tooth. Crown is recommended to protect the tooth.
Bridge
If a tooth has been extracted leaving the space, and there are 2 teeth, one in front of the space and the other behind the space. The bridge can be made to replace the extracted tooth. Two teeth adjacent to the space require some preparation to provide supports to the artificial tooth. This procedure will allow extraction space to be functional again.
